Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born.  The care and education offered by our Pre-school helps children to continue to do this by providing all of the children with interesting activities that are right for their age and stage of development.

For  all children in attendance, the pre-school provides a curriculum for the Foundation Stage of education.  This curriculum is set out in a document, published by the Qualifications & curriculum Authority and the Department for Education and Skills, and called Curriculum Guidance for the  Early Years Foundation Stage.  A copy of this document is displayed with our information in the Pre-school foyer and is available for parents/carers to look at or borrow if you wish to take it home.  Our Pre-school follows this guidance.

All of our curriculum is delivered through play activities.  Play helps young children to learn and develop through doing and talking which research has shown to be the means by which young children think. Our pre-school uses the Early years foundation stage, its Early Learning Goals and Statements  to plan and provide a range of play activities which help children to make progress in all areas of their learning and development.  In some of these activities children decide how they will use the activity and, in others, an adult takes the lead in helping the children to take part in the activity.  In all activities, information from the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum has been used.  Within these activities, our high staff ratios ensure that all of the teaching and learning strategies used in our Pre-school are responsive to the needs of the individual child.  Our continuous planning is displayed on our Group notice-boards.  Please have a look at it and feel welcome to ask any questions.

The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is used by all early years providers in pre-schools, playgroups, private nurseries and school nurseries and reception classes throughout Shropshire.  Our Staff team attends many in-service training courses on the Foundation Stage curriculum each year.  This training is provided by the local Education Department of the county Council is also attended by our colleagues from the school nurseries and reception classes.
